Spring?

Spring?

A chill is still
in the air
Yet…
the Sun warms
the day

Don’t be fooled
Winter lurks
clinging to life…
ready to roar back
into being at any
Moment…

Tentative blossoms
brave the season
While the knowledge
of Mesquites tells
the true tale

South winds blow
often shifting West
forget that “in like
a Lion out like a
Lamb” nonsense

The lamb is lost
forever as the
winds begin
during the throws
of Winter and
continue far
into the heat
of Summer

Heart-Strings

Heart-Strings

Yes, they exist
Plucked…
Abused…
Broken…

Tearing my
Soul into pieces
Shards of glass
piercing me
inside and out

The heart echoes

that pain
As heart-strings
are stretched…
abused…
broken…

Shades of Darkness

Shades of Darkness

Shades of darkness
Growing ever deeper

The strange turn of events
keeps repeating…
causing continued confusion

Tearing at my
Heart
Blackening my
Soul

A grey mist always
around the corner…
Growing deeper…
darker…
thicker…
more sinister…
as Time goes by

Causing me continued
Confusion….
Laying me Bare
Open wounds to be
hurt again and again

Why is my world
completely Black?

Black Ice Stars

Stars hang in
the sky like
Black Ice

No light within
No light from
without

Chunks of blackness
Lumps of coal

Nothingness…
Like her
Soul…

Black
And…
Barren

Unforgiving…

Lazy Sunday

One of those peaceful days
Nothing pressing
A Lazy day

Stretching and enjoying
another half hour or
so of in the warm covers —
not really asleep
But…
that Lazy Sunday
drowse

Looking over at you…
Deep sleep still has control
Lips slightly parted
and soft snores let me know
it will be a while before
you reach the surface of
reality

Watching you sleep
is such a joy…
an unexpected treasure
that I hold in my
heart Forever…

Whiskey Memories

He taught me
to drink Jim Beam
with Dr. Pepper

An unlikely
combination that
somehow grew
on me as much
as he did

We lived,
laughed,
loved
And…
parted

Now when I see
a bottle of
Jim
there is a fond
smile and a
warm feeling
blooms deep
inside

Whiskey Memories…

Summer Night

Summer Night

Soft summer night
Driving into the country

The sky is midnight
blue and stars so close
they can be touched

Sweet kisses
Warm breezes on
bare skin

A lone train whistles
in the distance
stirring Memories
of a distant past
When they shared
love and laughter

Walking hand in hand
to the stream’s edge
Cool water on
bare toes
Smooth River Rocks
underfoot
They wade deep
to Baptize their
Love

Counting My Losses

Life was looking great…
Finally

But…

When least expected
I am slammed in the
face…

Again…

Why…
Things never stay the same
Always shifting…
Never stable

My heart bleeds
And…
My soul mourns
every loss

Old Soul

She was always different from the rest
Inside her head
while they were into clothes
and makeup

A deep thinker
An old soul

A wise woman
once told her
she had lines of wisdom
between her eyes

She was only twelve
at that time
Always searching for
something
Not knowing what

People mattered
Books a necessity
Music was her lifeline
Why was she Different?

Who was she
searching for?
The faceless man
of her dreams
Who was she…
really?

Her grandmother
read palms and
tea leaves
Spoke of auras
and past lives
What were hers?

Some said there
was gypsy blood
Others said she
had the blood
of the Ancient Ones
Druids…
Pagans…
Picts…

Who was she?

Seasons

You came to me
in Summer
I was cautious
You were persistent

We heated up
in Autumn
Stoked the fire
Flamed the Passion

Winter’s breezes
Brought a decided
Chill from you
The flame flickered
Wavered…
Uncertain…

My soul had hope
for Spring
Yet…
the rains came
And…
Extinguished
our Flame
