Still I Cry…

Still I Cry…

I thought of you today…
How much I miss you
after all these years…
your dry wit…
your laughter…
your smile…
your ocean blue eyes
accented by powder burns
from nearly being blown
up in Viet Nam

We had everything
loved life to the fullest
enjoyed so much
simple things
fancy things
each other

Your life was taken
away so unexpected
much too soon
leaving me so alone

That was years ago…

Yet…

when I think of you
Still I cry…

Leaving

Leaving

She left…
Finally…
Nothing there
any more but
a heart that
sounds like
cracking glass
on the verge of
shattering at
any moment

Why does loyalty
get her nowhere
devotion…
blinded by words
eyes opened by
actions

Quietly closing
the door…
She left behind
that chapter
of her life…

Coming Home

Escape was all
she could think
Driving all night
through pouring
rain that kept
the windshield
fogged mixing
with her tears

She didn’t know
where she was…
where she was going…
the road sang beneath
her tires accompanied
with drums of raindrops

Just around the bend…
a rise in the road and
dawn splitting through
the last of the clouds
She saw a neon sigh

Flashing…
     gas…
guitars…
     gas…
guitars…

A sign in a
sign in a sign…
She needed gas
and it was time again
to have a guitar

Stopping…
she felt like she
was coming home…

Rage Against…

Rage Against…

Rage Against
the Dying…
the unfairness…
the injustice…
the blatant actions
against one group
of individuals
Blocked at every turn

Nearly 35 years
later and the fight
continues
Now…
Rage to live…
Rage for equal rights…
Rage to be seen human…
Equal…

Able to live..
To love…
To be…
Who they please
without prejudice

Continue the
RAGE…

Unwanted…

Unwanted…

She is tired
so very tired
of fighting

At every turn
a new foe
yet…
unidentified

Daily something new…
something different…
yet…
unknown

She can’t keep this up
She doesn’t understand
what…
why…

She only knows things
are not right
she doesn’t know
how to –
right the wrongs
how to –
fight the fight
of something
(someone?)
unknown…
unseen…

She only knows
every day
she becomes
more and more
ignored…
more and more
unwanted…

Why?

Her Storm

Her Storm

Building from the
Southwest
air thick and
charged with
growing electricity

Times like this
unnerve her…
disturb her…
causing her to be
restless and stalk
the storm from
room to room

Lightning flashes
and her hair stands
on end making
the flesh on her
arms crawl
causing her to become
even more unsettled

Thunder booms and
rumbles adding to
the symphony of
the storm until it
become unbearable…

Lightning strikes
splitting sky and air
Thunder rattles the
entire house

Then…

Finally…

Rain…

and oh so sweet
Release…

Tattered Life

Tattered Life

Wiping away broken dreams
Stacking leftover memories
on a garage sale table

a tattered book…
his coffee cup…
that damned white
button-down shirt…

All to painful to
see every day
These and so much
more must go
If not sold or
given away…the
trash is waiting

So much of life
ends up as
useless detritus
remainders of
a lifetime ago

Insecurities…

Insecurities…

Insecurities…
Yes, we all
have them at times

Are they worth
hiding…
avoiding…
being someone you
are not and never
will be is not the
way to overcome
Them…

Facing your fears
head on
open…
honest…
with reality being
the only way

Or…

Insecurities…
will be
your downfall…
your undoing…
leading you to
the end of
Reality…

The Dream…

The Dream…

A pale thread of
golden light
brushed her face

looking outside
she saw it lighted
a path in the
Darkness…

Did she dare follow?
Where could it lead?

She felt as though
the light was
attached to
her soul…
her very being…
Drawing her into
the Darkness…
the unknown…

Her feet were not
her own…
following the
tiny lighted path
that ended in
a glowing meadow

The light dimmed…
A figure emerged…
Calling her…
Beckoning…
Safe…
Secure…

Finally she saw him
The old  man said,
“I have been waiting for you.”

And…

The Dream Ended…

Goddess of Memory

Goddess of Memory

She was
unique…
different…
special…

In her head danced
tunes without words
unsung…
which were savored
as sacred memories
tasting them like
flavors on the air
as she breathed

Always shaping
memories…
smelling them
like fresh-baked
bread in the
morning sun

Others thought
her odd…
She saw herself
as the keeper
of time and
a servant of
thought

The Goddess of Memory
