Square Peg

Growing up I never fit in

with any group … any crowd

It wasn’t that insecurity caused

me to be an outsider

My family was just different

than those of my friends

Living in a small town everyone

knew everyone which  at times

is a good thing, but usually not

I was taunted and teased about

my handmade clothing

the foods my family grew and ate

the car we drove

my absent father … due to

his work schedule no one knew him

I still remember the day when one

of the popular (i.e. mean) girls in

my class pointed out the building

janitor and said loudly …

“Oh look … there is your father!”

I was mortified to no end

and…

that nasty prank made me

even more of a

Square Peg …

To Each His Own …

She was neat as a pin

Everything in its place

And…

A place for everything

Orderly …

Her life and her spirit

Always planning to the

final minute

Never wavering from

the original

He was spontaneous

A free spirit

A system of organized

clutter was his life

Yet …

When asked he could

put his finger on exactly

what was needed

She was the dark

to his light

The yin to his yang

The reason to his lack there of

Some wondered how they

could be a couple

Others saw immediately

the perfect fit

Never far from one another

Always touching with a

sly smile

Not caring what others thought

Knowing what worked for them …

What’s In A Name?

What’s In A Name?

My given name some would say

is —

unique …

different …

not fitting a child …

or …

a woman …

A nickname cannot come

from a name like that

It is what it is and something

to be lived with but not one

that can be ‘grown into’.

I dreamed of having a cute

nickname all my childhood

I love(d) nicknames…

felt they were special …

making the owner someone

different …

standing out from the

rest of us

An old lover used to

call me ‘Kid’ as a term

of endearment …

no one did before him

or since he died

That was the closest

I ever came to having

a nickname that was

just for me

Completely my own…

So …

Deep into adulthood

and I continue to live

with the name that was

given me at birth

given proudly by my mother

but one that bedeviled

me my entire life

Now…

I have come to use a version

of my middle name which

fits like a pair of comfortable

well-worn jeans of Chucks

It is more me than the other

One of simplicity and

ordinariness …

but one that is me in its

simplicity as I travel

through the final journey

of my life …

Youth…

Youth…

In my much younger,

foolish and happier days

There was a stoner

boyfriend in my life

His outlook was happy

and carefree and not

just because of the good

weed he always had

But…

Because he viewed

the world…

life…

people…

and

things…

Through a different

lens than most people

His favorite quote,

“I’m alright, the

world’s all wrong.”

I want to go back

to those happier…

carefree…

less stressful

days….

Wishes…

Be careful what you wish for…
Life's dissatisfaction at
times come back to haunt us

Always looking and
searching for
someone…
something…
bette...new...different
May do more harm
than good in
the long run...

Instead of wanting
new…
different…
exciting...

Take time to re-evaluate
what you have
And…
Make everything better

Invisible…

It never fails…
I am invisible
Until…
you want something

That just happened
to me again

However…

The past will not
be repeated
Words hurt too
deep to forget
and be swayed
by your pleas

My heart has
hardened and
I no longer care

I Wish…

I wish I were…
Eighteen again…
And
Know what I know now

Oh… how my life
would be different
Different directions and
paths would have
been followed

Different choices…
Different career…
Different relationships…

Looking back ~
this life has not
been so bad

But…

it could have
been so much
Better…

The Day…

Today…
Began like so many others…

Late September
Crisp air
Clear skies
A blush on the
Eastern Horizon

But…

Today is unlike
any other
In that it will
never happen again

Once it is gone
It’s over…
And…
Only a piece
of History

Perhaps it will
be remembered fondly…
Perhaps forgotten
Completely…

Hope

Changes are coming…
Letting go…
Hope is around
the corner
And…
Life is looking up

Sighing…
Not knowing what
to expect…
when…
But…
Waiting for something
New…
Different…

Right now
I am standing
on the up side
of Down…

Watching…
Waiting…
Hoping…
To be
Found…
