Angry

Emotions get the best of us

most of the time

Trying to determine exactly

how we feel is confusing

Being angry is the most

often default …

It covers a myriad of emotions

Most often when we are

sad, deeply hurt

Or…

completely indifferent

Anger raises its ugly

head and takes control

At those times it is

difficult to step back and

really look at the situation

Evaluate what the true

emotion we are feeling

When it is too easy to

let our anger take the lead …

Hurt …

I am in constant

pain

A pain deep and

haunting that

never leaves me

There are many

forms of abuse

Not all leaving

bruises and scars

A word…

An action…

A look…

Being ignored…

Each intentional

and with purpose

All are forms

of abuse

Mental torture…

Emotional pain…

Are sometimes

so much worse

than a beating

can ever be

Because…

They are hidden

and no one

knows but me

Hair Wars – Day 1 PAD

Hair Wars

I have always had a love
hate relationship with
my hair
A continual battle
that began somewhere
in my 12th year of life

Most days the hair
wins … even more now
years later than I am
willing to admit

I had straight long
black hair that behaved
until the magic of
“womanhood” began

At that point my once
straight locks became
unruly, curly, frizzy,
and maddening

Of course, this all
happened when the
rule was long straight
parted down the
center to create a
curtain of hair falling
on each side of the face
silky and lively enough
for the mandatory
hair flip at just the
right time … that hair
flip could mean so
many different things
indifference …
disgust …
interest in that special boy …
the list is endless

But …

Wild…
Unruly…
Curly…
Frizzy…
Bush-woman hair
was impossible
to flip … it just
DID NOT WORK

All sorts of
potions…
irons…
ironing…
soda can rollers…
nothing could
tame that wild mess

Adolescence …
that period of time
we hated…
loved
endured…
fought…

Not even crazy
hair could keep
that struggle in line

The battle still
wages …
acceptance of the
unruliness
and…
acceptance of
the grey that
refuses to be
covered

But…
Purple hair I
have found is FUN
regardless of how
it chooses to
BEHAVE!

This is my Day 1 Post for the Writers Digest PAD for April Challenge. The prompt was ‘resistance’.

Such A Girl!

Such a Girl!

Today has been one

of remembering…

days gone by…

Music reminding me

of what was…

what will never be

Again…

Emotions are high…

Tears…

I am such a

Girl sometimes

Really pisses me off!

Unified…

Your scent still lingers
on the rose-colored pillow case
you detested…
On your tuxedo shirt and
felted Western hat

Breathing deeply…
The memories flood in
And…
I cry

Like Cohen wrote…
“… the heart is a rage
of directions…”*
there is no Mercy

I refuse to wash
that shirt or pillow case
The only pieces of you
that remain

I wear the hat when
the missing becomes
too much

Your scent…
My raging heart
Unified…

*The follow line from Leonard Cohen’s poem #50 The Book of Mercy was my inspiration today.

” … the heart is a rage of directions, but your name unifies the heart …”

Music

From the opening note
to the last
It touches emotions
in me…
either “the holy or
the broken”
My heart swells
and there are
tears of joy

Hallelujah…
Hallelujah…
Hallelujah…
Hallelujah…

Thank you Leonard!

Chill Bumpy Good

I used the phrase

“chill bumpy good”

with a friend

to describe the emotions

I felt while listening to

a young boy sing

How Great Thou Art

This performance brought

me to tears

This boy was

so amazing my

friend agreed the phrase

described the singing perfectly

and suggested I use that

phrase in a poem

Initially, I wrote a piece

of micropoetry…

But, I wanted something

more to illustrate

the impact of that phrase

There are events, things,

people in our lives that

touch us deeply in a

manner that the right

words are hard to find

When that happens to me…

my go to phrase has

always been…

“chill bumpy good”

The Box

Each time you lied

I added it with the

others in my special

Box of lies…just for you.

Some were repeats…

Multiple times…

While others were new…

unique…

yet… still

unbelievable…

The collection continues to grow

Shared with only a few trusted

friends…just in case…

Everyone else thinks you are

wonderful…

Views you as honest…

trustworthy…

A fine Christian man

who would never

lie…

cheat…

And

intentionally destroy me

in every possible way

Over…and…Over…and…Over
