It happened again

last night…

I dreamed you were

still here…

still alive…

 

You gently and 

sweetly cradled me 

in your arms

Reassured me things

would be fine

 

For a brief moment

I was happy

Until…

This morning when

the dreams and

you were both

Gone…

That Autumn

I saw a blaze of

color against a

brilliant blue sky

 

You took me where

the beauty came

shining through

 

A beauty that can 

only be seen where

the nights are cold

and the afternoons warm

 

Leaves like I have

never seen

Colors I did not

know existed

 

My excitement

through your

eyes reminded me

of Van Morrison 

And…

When the Leaves

Come Falling Down

 

Such a happy time

Neither of us knew

it was soon to end

Secret Afternoon…

Late Spring…

A gentle warm day

The afternoon spent 

lazing in the sun

Sharing their passion

Stolen moments…

 

He had to leave…

She must stay…

lounging in the 

afterglow of 

what they shared

 

Later…

She collects her 

book…

quilt…

 

And…

 

with sandals in hand

walked barefoot to

her car stopping to

check where she had

been quietly reading 

for any signs…

any indications…

of their secret 

meeting in the park

before stealing away

to that lovely…

     private…

            meadow…

 

She smiled knowingly

secretly…

reliving the afternoon

 

A deep breath

Squaring her shoulders

she resigned to go home

prepare dinner as though

nothing had changed

There comes a time

for all of us toward

the end of our time

to decide…

Do we hang on

and fight…rage

 

Or…

 

Do we let go

gracefully…

willingly…

accepting…

what the fates

have in store

the inevitable…

 

My decision is

not clear…

Will I rage at

the end

 

Or…

 

Will I turn my

eyes to the light

and go willingly…

peacefully…

joyfully…

with a smile 

on my face

Autumn Leaves

We met in mid Summer

Fiery July…

Our passion matching

the heat of a blazing sun

 

Late starlight walks…

Moonlight meetings…

We fell hard…

fast…

Never willing to be apart

needing the touch…

to talk…

to be…

 

Much too soon our 

Time would be over…

spent…

 

For me…

Time was waning

with the days of 

Summer…

 

Not being able to

let go gracefully

I left in September

telling you to 

Remember me when

the season turned

 

By then

For me…

all left would be

the dust of fiery 

colored leaves

of Autumn…

Good Things

Mama always said,

Her wisdom has 

always led me in

the right direction…

If only I believe…

If only I am

Waiting isn’t easy

I Still Don’t Know…

Life is strange

And… unusual

Each of us going

our own separate way

Independent

 

Yet…

 

Depending on 

others along 

the way

 

Everyone we meet

leaves a little of

them behind

Making us who we are

Touching us…

Parts of us…

Pieces of us…

 

Usually we know

why things happen

why people come

into and out of

our lives

 

But…

 

Sometimes those we 

meet remain a

Mystery…

Still not knowing 

what or why

Only knowing life

is so much better

because they are here
