What is that word?

He asks…

Pointing out a country on his map

I try my best to pronounce it correctly…but I’m not sure

He loves Dad’s passion

Maps of all kinds

All places

He struggles with …




Reading in general

Sacrificing his education at an early age

for his family…

his mother…

his younger siblings…

The Great Depression changed him

It did not however…

Prevent him from learning…

From continuing to

Teach himself

at all costs well into adulthood

Daily he mastered the most

complex math…in his head

making the correct equations to determine

the right mix of sand, gravel, and cement

The proper slope of a roadside…

the length and height of a bridge

Yet…he still struggled with words…

with reading which he loved


He never gave up his

Love of
