Your scent still lingers

on the rose-colored pillow case

you detested…

On your tuxedo shirt and

felted Western hat

 

Breathing deeply…

The memories flood in

And…

I cry

 

Like Cohen wrote…

“… the heart is a rage

of directions…”*

there is no Mercy

 

I refuse to wash

that shirt or pillow case

The only pieces of you

that remain

 

I wear the hat when

the missing becomes 

too much

 

Your scent…

My raging heart

Unified…

There comes a time

for all of us toward

the end of our time

to decide…

Do we hang on

and fight…rage

 

Or…

 

Do we let go

gracefully…

willingly…

accepting…

what the fates

have in store

the inevitable…

 

My decision is

not clear…

Will I rage at

the end

 

Or…

 

Will I turn my

eyes to the light

and go willingly…

peacefully…

joyfully…

with a smile 

on my face

Rage Against…

Rage Against

the Dying…

the unfairness…

the injustice…

the blatant actions

against one group

of individuals

Blocked at every turn

 

Nearly 35 years 

later and the fight

continues

Now…

Rage to live…

Rage for equal rights…

Rage to be seen human…

Equal…

 

Able to live..

To love…

To be…

Who they please

without prejudice

 

Continue the

RAGE…
