Midnight …

Midnight …

Spring and still awake

deep into the night

Through my open

window sounds of darkness

Crickets …

An occasional night-bird calling …

A roaming cat’s lonely call …

Tires singing on the highway

as travelers make their way

home … or running away

A restlessness comes over

me as I cannot sleep

Oh to be a cricket enjoying

the cool spring night

Or … a night-bird sharing

its song for those awake to listen

Maybe a cat … free to roam and

enjoy the night

But …

Most of all …

to have tires singing beneath

me as I drive away to parts

Unknown …

Blue Demons

Here is the Writing Outside the Lines challenge prompt for the week of September 27th:

You come upon a blue door in a stone wall. What happens next?

Prologue: This week has been a struggle for me … not to find time to write, but to take time to write … this prompt or anything else. Personal demons are chasing me and unfortunately they have won some days and I have won others … right now it is a draw because you can never really fight your demons and win.

Blue Demons

Blue has always been my favorite color

from the clearest pale aqua to the

deep midnight sapphire blue

Blue comforts and consoles me

while at the same time

haunts me …

Sparkling blue sea water

Clear cold spring water

The artificial blue of a

man-made pool

all call my soul …

Reach out and comfort me

when life needs to be

Rejuvenated…

Refocused…

Renewed…

Yet …

Those deep dark midnight blues

hide my demons…

My fears…

My nightmares…

I long to open this door

This beautiful turquoise door

And find that clear cold spring

That restores me and makes me whole

waiting for me on the other side

But…

The fear that lives in midnight blue

Keeps me on the outside

Where it is safe in not knowing

what is on the other side

Feeling that the known at this

point is so much safer than

the unknown ever can and will be…

Searching…

Her life has

been a constant

searching for

something unknown

Something at the

edge of her

consciousness…

A flicker of something

she cannot catch

just outside her

field of vision

Always looking…

Always reaching…

Always trying…

To make it

to that

Summit…

Fate…

Rivers of stars
The Moon’s path
leading me to new
heights…
places…
people…

Unknown~

My destiny…

Or~

My greatest horror…

One foot in front of
the other as I
step out into
the unknown…
the darkness…

As fate
take the lead…

Lurking

We all see you there
Hiding in the shadows
Lurking…
Sinister…
Foreboding…

Not wanting to be
Seen…
Yet…
Not able to leave

So…

We ignore you
And…
Leave you there alone
in your shadows
Not acknowledging
your Presence…

I Still Don’t Know…

I Still Don’t Know…

Life is strange
And… unusual
Each of us going
our own separate way
Independent

Yet…

Depending on
others along
the way

Everyone we meet
leaves a little of
them behind
Making us who we are
Touching us…
Parts of us…
Pieces of us…

Usually we know
why things happen
why people come
into and out of
our lives

But…

Sometimes those we
meet remain a
Mystery…
Still not knowing
what or why
Only knowing life
is so much better
because they are here

Whereabouts Unknown

Whereabouts unknown…

That was how my
Dad and his siblings
referred to my
grandfather during
the Great Depression

He just disappeared
and was gone for
years only to show
up as if nothing
was wrong

Whereabouts unknown…

He left my grandmother
and a handful of
young children to
fend for themselves
during that dark time

Whereabouts unknown…

Anna Laura…
the baby of the family
died of lockjaw while
he was gone

Whereabouts unknown…

No one knows or will
say they know where
he was during
all those years

Whereabouts unknown…

Just another of the
many secrets…
Mysteries…
that ran rampant
through my
father’s family

Unwanted…

Unwanted…

She is tired
so very tired
of fighting

At every turn
a new foe
yet…
unidentified

Daily something new…
something different…
yet…
unknown

She can’t keep this up
She doesn’t understand
what…
why…

She only knows things
are not right
she doesn’t know
how to –
right the wrongs
how to –
fight the fight
of something
(someone?)
unknown…
unseen…

She only knows
every day
she becomes
more and more
ignored…
more and more
unwanted…

Why?
