The older I become the more

I realize that I am still learning

Some things I learn are not

what I expected …

But …

Necessary nonetheless

In the past few months

I realized that friends are

nice to have

But …

they are not a necessity

Acquaintances are more

realistic than friends

I have never had an

acquaintance stab me

in the back

Never has an acquaintance

deliberately hurt me

My acquaintances have been

loyal, respectful, caring, and

take time for me when friends

rarely if ever have done

So …

in  my old age the wisdom

of experience has given me

the realization that I will

never become close friends

with another person again

I will seek out and maintain

my acquaintances who

enrich my life like no others …

Wisdom – Day 21 April PAD

Wisdom

Through the years

I have been told

by more than one

highly evolved person

that I am an

Old Soul…

That I have walked

this earth many times

and touched many lives

I don’t know about

that for sure…

But…

I am sensitive…

Empathetic…

Intuitive…

And…

Independent…

I seem to know

things I should not

Read people for

more than they

appear on the

surface…

And…

Feel the weight

of the world…

Universal pain…

A difference in

someone dear to

me even before

they are aware of it…

I react to the

subtleties of life…

love…

the cycles of both

Moon and Tides

And…

Observe everything…

everyone…

Put up my protective

shields…

And…

Go my Own Way…

Today’s prompt … ‘two for Tuesday” … write a ‘what you are’ poem … or a ‘what you are not’ poem

Wisdom

The best advice
I ever received
came from the
mentor of a
dear friend

She was wise
and courageous
A woman
before her time

During our teens
she advised us…
Enjoy the boys…
Experience all
the men you can…

But…

Don’t ever ever
fall in love
she told us

Love is a trap…
You only get hurt…
Be the best
woman you can
be for the man
of the hour

But…

Don’t give him
your heart…
your soul…
your life…

And…

Don’t ever ever
fall in love
she said
every time
she saw us
