When I begin a new poem

or a new short story I

reach for a blank journal

I have to feel the words

flowing from my pen to

the paper and experience

the sensation of writing

by hand filling the page

with those squiggles we

learned to make and form

words for others to read

I don’t edit in the journal

that happens on the computer

screen as I transfer what

was created by my fingers

holding a favorite pen

onto that electronic blank

page which allows me

to share my creative side

In a sad way, it hurts

to not be able to share

what I write in my own hand

Not that it loses something

in transition, but it is so

much less personal to

see my words in Arial

or Garamond than it is

my longhand …

Maybe the Monks

had it right all along …

A Treat …

A Treat …

Whenever you said,

“I want to read something to you.”

I knew I was in for a treat of words

Wonderful words that either were

from your personal writing

Or…

From something you just read and

wanted to share with me …

our tastes for literature

of all types was so much the same

Neither of us could go a day

without reading … something

And…

Usually we also were writing

Words for us both were/are

like brain food…

oxygen…

our life’s blood…

So…

When you said you wanted

to read something to me I

would sit back, settle in and

wait for the voice that was

so much a part of me

that voice I miss each and

every day now  you

are in the big library

in whatever world we land

when we leave this one

I long to hear you walk in

again and say …

“I want to read something to you.”

Who Knew… Day 29 April PAD

Who Knew…

All those years

I was the shy

silent one

The one who

most people forgot…

Ignored…

Never considered to be

of any importance…

Yet…

All those years

of being on

the outside looking in…

I watched…

Listened…

Observed details…

Learned…

No one ever knew

that they were

being mentally

recorded…

Every detail…

Every action…

filed away in

the deep dark

recesses of my

mind…

to be used when

needed in the future…

Bringing back

every mean word

and deed…

every hurt…

every time I

was left out…

ignored…

used…

abused…

abandoned…

Or…

neglected

by those thinking

themselves better…

superior…

entitled…

Because…

You see…

I have the

Magic…

the ability…

the power…

To bring each

and every one

of them to their

knees…

the ones who

wronged me

in any form or

fashion during

my life

They didn’t know then…

and most don’t know now…

I am a WRITER

And…

My works have

POWER…

Today’s prompt: write a nobody knows poem…

Words…

Words…

Sometimes I sit reading…

doing dishes…

folding clothes…

And…

The words start

Words that MUST

be captured

Words that find a

white space and crawl

on their own from

my pen…

taking control of my

hand and mind

until they run that

particular course…

Looking back at

random journals or

previous blog posts

I sometimes don’t

recognize the

words as my own

Because…

Words have a life and

mind of their own

and demand to be

released

Sometimes…

in multi-colors

across white pages…

Carver on Bukowski

Words escape me

Not writer’s block really

But…

A total blank when

trying to find

Inspiration…

I am studying the

works of Raymond Carver

He writes his life as do I

however, perhaps I haven’t

had the inspirational struggles

that led him to pour his

soul onto paper

Today’s poem is one he

wrote of a night with

Bukowski

Oh to have the

Brilliance of these two

the ability to tell their

stories

to make others feel

their lives…

their souls…

Bukowski says you must

have loved to be able to

write poetry

So …

I keep searching…

I keep hoping…

the right words

will find me

Will there then be love?

Words…

Words unspoken
Words to painful
to say out loud
are easy to
put on paper

A writer…
A poet…
uses words to
protect them
their heart…
their soul...

Hiding behind the
lines and sentences
on a page
Pouring out their
pain behind the
safety of creativity

War of Words

War of Words

Everyday the battle begins
all over again

Each of us…
my friends in writing
my wordsmith companions
take pen in hand…
attack the blank white page…
gently place fingers on
a keyboard and stare
at that blank screen
to continue the daily
war of words

Will my Muse
direct me today?
Taking my hand and
allow the words to flow
poetry…
short story…
additional novel pages…

Or…

Will she leave me
high and dry…
scribbling and scratching
looking for the daily path…
stream of words…
inspiration…

To create…
To write…
To believe…
Can I win this
battle one more day
and keep my soul fed
through my personal
realm of words

Writing

A writer always loves
feedback and
appreciates a good
following

We know not
everything we
write will be
well received

However…

We continue every
day pouring our
life-blood and
heart-strings onto
blue lines and
white paper

For where would
a writer be
without followers
and readers to
keep us on our
toes and trying
day after day
to become better

Words of Life

Words of Life

Take me to the place…
That special place
where thought begins

A place where ideas
flow and pain is
released through
words on a page

Words tracing life
as they bring forth
truth…
reason…
possibility…

Once written
And…
The spoken

The incantation
begins…
Bringing forth
change and
opportunity

Midnight Memories

The witching hour
…after midnight

My Muse loves to wake me then
teasing me with ideas…
making me pay attention…
forcing me to write…
when all I
want is sleep

She gives no choices…
filling my brain with
words so fast at times
I struggle to write
fast enough
Before…
They disappear
And…
are lost to me
Forever
