Midnight Memories
Day 26 – Writer’s Digest April 2016 PAD
Experienced PAD-ers knew it was coming, because this prompt always shows up on one Tuesday or another.
For today’s Two-for-Tuesday prompt:
Write a love poem. Or…
Write an anti-love poem.

Midnight Memories
It’s midnight and in my dream
a phone is ringing
Turning over hoping to
again find that
deep dreaming sleep
It is still ringing.
Why won’t it stop?
Crawling to the surface
of awareness
I realize that ringing
Is NOT a dream
A phone call at midnight
is Never a good thing
I dread reaching
for the phone…
someone died…
someone’s in jail…
someone needs a place to crash…
a crazy friend is drunk dialing again…
I see the number and smile…
My heart quickens…
All my fears relieved…
“Hi,” I say in a sleepy voice.
“Hey, Baby!”
“I miss you,” he says with his
voice steeped in tears.

Just may be … still a bit painful though even after over 20 years
