Going The Distance
Day 4 – Writer’s Digest April 2016 PAD
For today’s prompt, write a distance poem. As a runner, I automatically think of running when I think distance. But hey, there’s long distance relationships. Or why not get beyond geographic distance and consider distance in terms of time or emotional distance. Or some other interpretation.

Going The Distance
Life is the ultimate long distance run
We hit the ground at birth
and never stop until that final
heart beat claims the finish line
Some say that life is a marathon
not a 10K – we all go the distance
But …
this makes us individual…
unique…
some have a slow start while
others are setting records
from the beginning
The distance…
The length…
the of ebb and flow that
regulates this thing called life
creates the nuances for
each of us … making us
who we are at any given
point in time …
any given point in our
unique race …
Our life may be the equivalent
of a 5K, 10K, full marathon
or anything in between
The distance of life is not
always in our hands
But …
When we make it the best
race regardless …
We have lived life to the fullest
Given each moment
our all…
our best…
Then…
Only then have we …
Gone the Distance
