My Father’s Dreams
Almost the end of the line
One of the youngest still living at home
Then…The Great Depression
No more school at ten years old
Dropped out and working the farm…
Doing what he could to help out his Momma…
Poppa up and left all of them
Someone had to help…
To try to hold things together for Momma and
the younger kids
The brother just older than him quit too
The farm more important than reading and cyphering
We tried to keep the cattle alive and the
Sawmill going for those who needed lumber
Times were hard…no one had much of anything…
All so desperate…
So poor…
So hungry…
He gave up on his own dreams…
That big dream…finishing high school…
but he made Momma promise that his sister Joe
would see her dreams come true…whatever it took…
Joe would graduate…
She would have her
Dreams…of graduation…then
Business School in Montgomery
What he wanted was NO longer important…
he would make it…Some how…Some way…
he would finally live
His Dream
