Autumn Delight
The universe gives us gifts
should we choose to pay attention
Each and every season has unique
and rare gifts to share
But…
The gifts of Autumn are the
most special to me
Jeweled toned leaves that
change the view daily are
are not only a constant
but amazing delight to me
Like an ever-changing
panoramic slide show
giving me awe and wonder
in their brilliant colors
Even after they begin to
fall and blanket the ground
and road ways their
brilliance continues …
Poet David Whyte said it best:
“… a shimmering bed of
dry leaves …”
Inviting the child in me
to pile them up and enjoy
the fun of falling into
a pile of nature’s jewels …

Flowers, Happy, Joy, Mason Jars

Joy in a Jar
Flowers are an important
part of my life
They bring me happiness
when nothing else can
For country girls
there is nothing better
than a simple arrangement
a handful of flowers dropped
casually into a Mason Jar
to make us smile …

Music O’Clock
When life becomes much
to weary to continue
When sadness sets in
for the day
I turn to music to
soothe my soul
Calm my fears
And…
Lift my spirits when
nothing else can
I am an eclectic
listener …
everything from
classical to rock
Jazz to Zydeco
Not just the beat…
the melody…
But…
the words …
All combined to
mold the moment
and change the
course of my day …

Joy, life, Me, Pain, Poems, Words

Every day…
Every night…
More times than
I can count
Poetry flows through
my mind
Some are fleeting and
never are caught
long enough to find
a home … either
on paper
or …
my computer screen
My life is a series of
Poems …
Some good …
Most not …
But poems nevertheless
that define me…
my life…
my struggles…
my joy…
my tears…
my pain…
Words that cannot hide
in the deep dark
recesses of my mind …

Swinging Bridge
Growing up we
spent time at the
Swinging Bridge
spanning the Colorado
River dividing two
Central Texas counties
We would run across
shouting with joy
and setting the
bridge into motion
An elaborate Rope and
Lumber affair back then
It saw hay-rides…
school field trips…
necking in the moonlight…
And…
way too many late-night
keg parties where some
drunk fool jumped into
the river below and
could not figure out
how to get climb
the river bank
Today…
it has been refurbished
for at least the second
time
Now being held high
above the Colorado with
huge steel ropes attached
to cement stanchions on
each end…
Yet…
It still has its
wooden deck and a
nice sway when
driven across
Or…
better yet…
when a herd of
screaming children
experience the joy
of running from
one county to
the next!

Remembrance…
The Season of Christmas
is upon us once again
Personally I have so
much to be thankful for
as I look back over
the past year
Good friends…
Abundance in my life…
Intertwined with
daily struggles
Remembering those no
longer with us
Brings both joy
and sadness
Missing their presence
Yet…
Remembering them
with Love...

Smile…
An open window
Lacy curtains gently
blowing in the breeze
She turns
Remembering…
That day long ago
When…
On an afternoon
just like this
She first gave
her heart away
That was long ago
All she has left
are Memories
And…
She smiles…

*RAGE…
There comes a time
for all of us toward
the end of our time
to decide…
Do we hang on
and fight…rage
Or…
Do we let go
gracefully…
willingly…
accepting…
what the fates
have in store
the inevitable…
My decision is
not clear…
Will I rage at
the end
Or…
Will I turn my
eyes to the light
and go willingly…
peacefully…
joyfully…
with a smile
on my face

Halcyon Days
Gone are the times
Those summer days
When all we needed
was one another
Halcyon Days…
That left us hungry
Yet…
Only for each other
That left us thirsty
Yet…
The only quench was
a deep kiss
We only needed
love…
laughter…
sun…
And ~
time…
Days spent in
each other’s arms
The only solace…
The only need…
The only respite…
Youth spent
Yet ~
Wants…
Needs…
Desires…
Still the same
I long for those days
Those Halcyon Days…
Wrapped in your strong arms
Holding me…
Leading me…
Teaching me…
to live my life
Enjoy myself to
the fullest
To love…
Old does not
mean aged…
Nor forgetful
of what once was
Old…
gives those memories
those days of youth
spent in love and longing…
desire and fulfillment
Searching still for the
will and passion to continue
